Ecstasy reigned in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, on Monday when Nigeria’s oldest airline, Aero Contractors, launched its Lagos-Abuja-Maiduguri flight by deploying its newly acquired state-of-the-art A320 aircraft to the route.

The flight took off from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja before heading to Maiduguri International Airport.

In Maiduguri, the plane was greeted with a ceremonial water cannon by officials from the FAAN airfield rescue and firefighting service with state government officials on the ground to receive the delegation Aero..

Airline chief executive Captain Abdullahi Mahmood said the airline made the right decision by launching a flight to Maiduguri, the first time the airline would operate in the northeast state after 62 years. operating.

He said the flight service would deepen connectivity in the state and provide flexible options for passengers on the road.

Mahmood noted that Borno has huge traffic with more than 50 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the state, except for the turnaround seen thanks to development programs launched by Governor Babagana Zulum.

The general manager assured that the airline would exceed the expectations of the population by offering quality services.

He said: “We are here today to make history after 62 years of operation, this is the first time that Aero will fly to Maiduguri. And Maiduguri is a home and a state of peace.

“Aero Contractors, as you know, is an airline that guarantees the safety, comfort of passengers and that is called the reliable way to fly.

“We have come to Maiduguri and we are going to prove that this is an airline that has come to stay and also help complement what the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum is doing.

“He can’t do all of this without Aero playing his own role, we have to be part of that development.

“What I can assure the people of Borno State today is that an airline arrived on a timely basis; the safety and comfort of passengers will be guaranteed.

“I can assure you that what we are going to offer you will exceed your expectations. “

He said Aero Contractors also wanted to be part of the new found peace in Maiduguri, hence his decision to operate in the state.

“You can see that peace has started to return to the place. And to date, it is the fourth airline operating in Maiduguri.

“Aero is Nigeria’s oldest airline today and this is the first time we operate in Maiduguri and also the governor’s achievements have really encouraged us. Maiduguri is today one of the most active states in Nigeria, despite all the challenges we have almost 50 NGOs in Maiduguri and there is traffic for aviation.

The governor’s representative, Professor Isa Hussein, who is also the chief of staff, noted that Aero’s maiden flight to Maiduguri on Monday showed peace and calm have returned to Borno.

This, he said, is reflected in the four airlines that now operate flights to the airport.

He said: “Maiduguri is the house of peace; peace has returned to Maiduguri. With the arrival of Aero, we have four airlines serving Maiduguri, we have Max Air, Azman Air, Arik Air and now Aero.

“And the only way to get low tariffs is to create a competitive environment. So with that the competition had started and with Aero’s record it’s safety first and comfort, I think the people of Borno state will definitely sponsor Aero.
