BARMM will set up skills training centers in 2 towns Tawi-Tawi

CITY OF COTABATO – The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education – Autonomous Region of Bangsamoro in Muslim Mindanao (MBHTE-BARMM), through its division of technical education and skills development (TESD), aims to create centers Municipal Training Courses (MTC) in the towns of Panglima Sugala and Simunul during this year.

MBHTE-BARMM Minister Mohagher Iqbal said on Wednesday that each TCM is worth PHP 5 million, to be funded from general MBHTE-TESD credits.

“The projects’ first groundbreaking is scheduled for the third week of October,” Iqbal said, citing a statement released by Dr Maryam Nuruddin, director of MBHTE-TESD Tawi-Tawi.

According to Nuruddin, the construction of the two MTCs aims to bring government services closer to the population, to intensify economic activities in the province and to facilitate access to vocational training.

“It will also strengthen the technical and vocational education and training services in the municipalities and allow the province to produce more qualified people ready to take up a job or to earn a living once the training is completed,” he said. she declared.

She added that an additional PHP 5 million has been allocated by MBHTE-TESD for MTC tools and equipment in Simunul.

Nuruddin pointed out that TESD Tawi-Tawi implemented the United Nations Development Program’s Enhanced Clothing and Protective Equipment Manufacturing Initiative for the Response to Covid-19 in the Bangsamoro Region (Empower BARMM) (UNDP).

The program involved the selection of sewing groups who received machines and raw materials to help seamstresses / tailors who have become manufacturers of personal protective equipment (PPE) to participate in their production with sufficient means.

She said they had chosen two groups as beneficiaries of the training – the Provincial Women Police Organization and the Mana Tailoring Shop which will produce PPE to include face masks to help support demand for protective clothing in the region and in other parts of the country. (ANP)
