MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Loren Legarda has won the endorsement of Iloilo officials led by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.
According to Defensor, Legarda deserves Ilonggo’s votes for all the help she has given to the neighboring province, especially during the pandemic when she continued to help even during her tenure as the representative of the lonely district of Antique.
“Loren Legarda is an exceptional senator in terms of advocacy and the quality of legislation she has achieved over the past 20 years as a public servant. Let us support her so that she can serve and provide continued aid to Iloilo,” Defensor said.
Iloilo City Lone District Representative Jam Baronda along with City Mayor Jerry Treñas also announced their support for Legarda citing that she has always been the pride of Western Visayas and with the programs and laws it created for the welfare of the Filipino people, such as providing livelihoods and job opportunities, affordable health care, quality education, and environmental preservation, Legarda deserves be back in the Senate.
In recent years, Legarda has ensured that national government programs reach more Iloilo beneficiaries through the programs it has supported, including the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay Sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Worker (TUPAD) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Assistance to People in Crisis (AICS) and Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
She also lobbied for the allocation of funds for the Barangay Kabuhayan Vocational Training Program (BKSTP), Labor Training Scholarship Program (TWSP) and Special Employment Training Program (STEP) in several districts and municipalities of Iloilo such as in Anilao, Bingawan, Duenas, Guimbal, San Rafael, among others.
The three-term senator also allocated funds, under the Ministry of Agriculture, for the construction of farm-to-market roads, such as in the municipalities of Maasin, San Joaquin, Sta. Barbara, Ajuy, Pototan, Carles, Duenas, Zarraga, New Lucena, Balasan, Calinog and Barotac Nuevo.
In addition, Legarda has also provided Medical Indigent Patient Assistance (MAIP) funding from 2018 to date, under the Department of Health (DOH), for the University of Western Visayas Medical Center. State of West Visayas.
“I have been a civil servant since 1998, and Ilonggos’ undying love and support has inspired me so much. The whole time I ran for national office, they gave me solid support in terms of votes and consistently placed me in the top rankings of senatorial candidates. Kaya naman, I always tell myself that I should return the love and support they always give me,” Legarda said in a previous statement.
“As I hopefully return to the Senate, sisiguraduhin ko na patuloy pong mararamdaman and mapapakinabangan nga Ilonggo ang mga proyekto and programa ng gobyerno, gaya ng nais ko para sahat ng probinsya to ating bansa. There is so much more to do and I hope Ilonggos will help me continue to serve the Filipino people.
