The International Maritime Institute, or IMI, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for its full mission-based engine room simulator and office for RT Flex, OR ME Engine and LNG bunkering on March 22, Tuesday, in the part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostsav” celebration. Develop the professionalism and skills of MEO Class 1, MEO Class 2, MEO Class 4 and Marine Engineering cadets. Using simulator technology.
While Shri Prabhat Jha, Group CEO and Managing Director of MSC Shipmanagement Limited, Cyprus attended the event as guest of honour, Shri Amitabh Kumar, General Shipping Manager, IRS attended the occasion as as main guest.
Many members of the maritime fraternity such as Captain Mahendra Pal Singh, Managing Director, MSC, and Chief Superintendents like Captain Rajendra Poswal, SIC MM, Noida; Captain Indresh Kharbanda, Managing Director, Executive Shipping; Captain Virendra Yadav (Deputy General Manager, MMSI, were some of the others who graced the event in high spirits.
Captain Bhasin and Shri Prabhat Jha went to visit the new IMI campus located at Sonpeda, more than 25 km from the location of the main campus. The hostel building process, GP rating admin block, CMCC course, Advance Fire Fighting, and the near-completed PSCRB impressed them both.
The announcement of this occasion started with the arrival of Shri Prabhat Jha. He received a warm welcome from the Head of the Institute, Captain Saurabh Varshney as well as others present at the show. Following this, Shri Prabhat Jha addressed the bridge and engine cadets of the MSC, toured the institution, admired the infrastructure of IMI and praised the models of machinery of work used on many ships aboard that were built by cadets.
On the guest of honour, the much anticipated arrival of Shri Amitabh Kumar, the audience greeted him with a standing ovation, a parade and salute by each of the four platoons as well as a guard of honor by the IMI cadets.
Captain Varshney mentioned in his welcome speech that the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator is desktop based and equipped with the latest RT Flex e-engine, ME e-engine, MEGI e-engine supplied with the bunker of LNG. The engine room simulator will also be equipped with advanced features such as exhaust gas scrubber and ballast water.
The event was part of the Azadi Ka Mahotsav celebrations, an initiative of the Indian government, to commemorate and celebrate 75 years of independence. The event also celebrated IMI’s 30th anniversary at the same time.
Shri Prabhat Jha expressed the joy and pleasure he felt while visiting IMI, meeting the cadets and learning about the overall institutional progress. He also wished the best for future IMI projects, especially for the simulation room, and let everyone cheer.
Captain Ashok Kohli, President of International Maritime Institute, also gave a keepsake to Shri Amitabh Kumar and Shri Prabhat Jha. Then they all headed to the engine simulator room, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the lighting of the lamp. The evening finally concluded with a snack served to all the honorable guests.
