Representative Jerry Carl (right) recognized National Aviation Week by visiting Jack Edwards National Airport, getting a project update on the airport and visiting the new air traffic control tower at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Airport Manager Scott Fuller briefed Congressman and airport board members on the airports’ latest efforts to complete the transition from a general aviation facility to a commercial service .
The airport tower is in the final stages of construction and commissioning is scheduled for November this year. The new air services terminal is in the design phase and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022. Construction of a new fire and rescue station at the airport is also scheduled for 2022.
“I am proud to work with the Gulf Shores Airport Authority to help resolve the long-standing critical safety and efficiency issue of the Jack Edwards National Airport tower. I am excited by the progress the airport is making in better meeting the travel needs of the surrounding community, and look forward to seeing the airport continually increase its role as an economic generator fueling the business growth of Baldwin County ”, Carl said.
Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft told Congressman that “the Jack Edwards National Airport is viewed as a vital asset to the health of Gulf Shores, South Baldwin County and the communities along the North Shore. Gulf of Alabama.
