mlas: MPs and Government Officials Visit Southern Naval Command in Kochi | Kochi News

KOCHI: In line with the Prime Minister’s vision to create greater awareness of the sea among the population, especially in coastal areas, a visit to the naval base Cochin, including a sea trip, was conducted by Southern Naval Command (SNC) for MPs / MPs / state government officials on Thursday. Seven MPs and seven officials including representatives from various state government departments attended the two-day event which began on Wednesday.
Participants at the event include MPs KM Sachindev, Mr. Vijin, CK Asha, Sanish Kumar Joseph, Roji John, Arun Kumar and Muhammad Muhasin, Kochi Town Police Deputy Commissioner Aishwarya Dongre and Deputy Secretary Priyamol.
A first-hand briefing on the training and operational functioning of the Navy emphasizing Kerala’s maritime strengths and challenges was presented to the participants. The Commander-in-Chief General Officer, SNC, Vice-Admiral AK Chawla interacted with them and made them aware of the nuances of the maritime domain, the imperatives of maritime security and the stakes of this one.
Familiarization tours to various naval simulators on water survival, damage control, on-board firefighting techniques and ship-handling training were organized. A special visit to INS Dronacharya in Fort Kochi was made and the team visited the Maritime Museum projecting the historic warfare capabilities of the Navy.
“The main attraction of the event was an exclusive ‘day at sea’ providing an opportunity to sail aboard warships so that elected officials as well as government policy makers could appreciate the dynamics of operations at sea, Navy warfare and police roles and current capabilities, ”said a Navy statement.
During the sea excursion, naval units demonstrated various facets of operations, including aircraft demonstrations, search and rescue operations, maneuvers at sea, neutralization of asymmetric threats by rapid attack craft at multipurpose water jet as well as rapid interception craft. One of the distinctive events was the passage of the Tarangini and Sudharsini sailboats with sea cadets demonstrating their navigation and rigging skills. Additionally, during a demonstration, the MLA Vijin was transferred from ship to ship at sea as both ships moved using ropes.
