SOMIC Packaging hires Ken Williams as Director of Service and After-Sales Service

Based in Eagan, Minn., Williams was most recently director of the packaging department at Engage Technologies Corp. The Minneapolis-area industrial and packaging equipment supplier is the parent company of several companies, including Eastey, a manufacturer of case sealing and shrink wrapping equipment. He managed all service facilities and the spare parts department, in addition to providing technical training to distributors and end users.

Williams, who has also held operational roles at Coca-Cola and Rockwell Collins, said he joined SOMIC because of the progress and upward leadership the company has made in the marketplace.

“There’s a lot of work to do and challenges to overcome, but I have an entrepreneurial spirit and that’s what attracted me to this position,” he explains. “I met Peter Fox and chatting with him, I had the same feeling as when I was at Rockwell. I have seen the growth that SOMIC has experienced in a relatively short time and the potential opportunities that are on the horizon.

One of his first priorities is to reorganize the department by increasing the number of service technicians.

“When I was at Coca-Cola, I created an in-house technical department, so I know what it takes to build a department. Since coming on board, we’ve brought everyone together under one roof here at Eagan They were working remotely after the COVID-19 pandemic began two years ago.

“I’ve also heard from several of our end users who have said they want us to service their SOMIC machines. With labor shortages they just don’t have the people and I see that happening more in the next five years. We had three service technicians when I started, and I have since hired two people and am looking to add three more.
