Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Industrial Training and Employment Commission of the Government of Karnataka, to impart industry-specific skills, culture and knowledge to students of the Karnataka Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
As part of the MoU, TKM has been identified as an industrial training provider to develop skilled human resources for manufacturing units and new entrepreneurs, to equip them for the high volume production expected in the manufacturing sector. in light of the greater Indian government attention to Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Following the MoU, a program focused on the development of students in ITIs located in the 31 districts of Karnataka is being implemented. The training program aims to develop young people who take ITI courses. Admissions to the program will begin in August 2021. An intensive 96-hour skills-based training program will be delivered in one trade – automotive assembly.
With the program, TKM will enable ITI students to acquire skills relevant to the manufacturing industry and improve their employment potential. Youth will be trained by Toyota Certified Trainers with extensive hands-on experience of the world-renowned Toyota production system. Upon successful completion of the training, students will be required to pass an exam, which will be jointly conducted by ITI and TKM, to be eligible for an apprenticeship in the automotive industry.
Speaking about the collaboration, Dr S Selvakumar, Government Secretary, Ministry of Skills Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods, Bengaluru, Government of Karnataka, said, “As we continue our mission to achieve the objectives of Skill India, such collaborations play an important role. Today, the manufacturing industry is changing rapidly with the advent of emerging technologies and the new normal due to the pandemic. We are pleased to partner with Toyota, which has been at the forefront of the automotive manufacturing revolution around the world. The classroom training and learning program offered under the MoU will help make ITI students more employable and employable.

In addition, he provided his expertise in the development of managers and training officers of 20 government tool rooms and training centers across Karnataka. We have delegated Toyota Certified Trainers to identified ITIs to act as catalysts in the development of industry relevant content, infrastructure and methodology. As a result, we have been able to develop a competitive talent pool of industry ready technicians and contribute to the Skill India mission, ”he concluded.
